Visitors invited to Drop In and Draw at the Martha Berry Museum
Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum will host a free Drop-in and Draw event in its museum galleries from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20. Local artists, sketchers and curious minds alike are invited to draw inspiration, quite literally, from one of the museum’s many works of art. From 16th century Italian oil paintings to marble sculptures, guests will have free access to a wide variety of art across history.
Harbin Clinic's Walk With a Doc Returns Aug. 17 with neurologist Dr. David Hale
Dr. David Hale to lead Aug. 17 edition of Harbin Clinic’s Walk with a Doc: The two-mile health walk is free and meets at Bridgepoint Plaza in Rome at 9 a.m. Participants will hear a short introduction on the benefits of walking before venturing onto Rome’s Kingfisher Trail. Leading the walk this month is Harbin Clinic’s Dr. David Hale, a neurologist who specializes in Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and other gray matters of the nervous system.
Dr. J. Ryland Scott Receives Frist Humanitarian-Physician Award
On Friday, June 21, Dr. J. Ryland Scott of Harbin Clinic General Surgery Rome and Bariatrics Rome was named the national recipient of the Frist Humanitarian-Physician Award at the HCA Healthcare Awards of Distinction. During the ceremony in Nashville, Dr. Scott was recognized for his excellent care both in his medical practice and within the community. This prestigious awards ceremony is hosted by HCA Healthcare, the parent company of Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Garvin Lee Chandler, now part of Harbin Clinic’s Family Medicine Adairsville, took a different route to becoming a physician.
After working in cancer research for five years, Dr. Garvin Lee Chandler knew that he was meant for something different. “Doing cancer research was unique and very interesting but there weren’t many opportunities to make connections with people. So, after five years, I started medical school thinking I would become an oncologist.” Not long after beginning his schooling, he was paired with a family medicine physician for clinical care training. Little did he know that the experience would inspire him to join family medicine, instead of oncology.
BCFU Places Third at Murray Tournament
The Berry College Forensics Union journeyed to a two-day swing tournament in Kentucky and placed as a team, while also bringing home six individual first-place wins. From Feb. 2-3, BCFU participated in the Ruby C. Krider and Alumni open tournaments at Murray State University. Students worked nonstop and competed against various colleges including Carson-Newman College and Western Kentucky University. After placing fourth in the team sweepstakes on Saturday, the team upped its game and ranked third on Sunday.
